Past Collaborations:
Art~In~Motion |
ArtThe centerpiece of the project, a large-scale performance featuring giant puppets and movement-based theatrical scenes created in four distinct Syracuse neighborhoods, will be enacted downtown Sept. 11, 2010. The performance will be an artistically rich multi- generational, multi-cultural, university/community event that supports, strengthens and connects neighborhoods through the arts. Community DialogueOur series of public conversations, focusing on the role of the arts in urban revitalization, is relevant to funders, business people, artists, urban planners, neighborhood activists, educators, and everyone else concerned about the future of Syracuse. We began in March with Barnaby Evans, creator of the highly successful WaterFire in Providence, R.I. Dr. Mindy Fullilove, professor of clinical psychiatry and public health at Columbia University, spoke about the intertwined health of places and their people April 15. Dr. Maria Rosario Jackson, director of Urban Institute’s Culture, Creativity and Communities Program, will present at 5 p.m. Sept. 10. All three join us Sept. 12, to reflect the day after the performance. - Back -Community ActionPeople from four areas of Syracuse are collaborating on this project to strengthen their neighborhoods, utilizing theater and puppetry arts to express their identity and vision. Open Hand Theater and Syracuse Stage artists are leading workshops, with assistance from SU students who are learning about the communities through their participation. - Back -
