Art~In~Motion |
Art~in~Motion is unprecedented in Syracuse in its role for arts participation to strengthen our neighborhoods, nurture creativity in our communities and build on the city's unique cultural heritage. Join partners Imagining America, Open Hand Theater and Syracuse Stage as sponsors of art, community dialogue and community actiontaking place where you live in Syracuse this summer. Share your talent, learn something new or just connect with your neighbors through Art~in~Motion. Learn how to get involved. Volunteers in each of four distinct Syracuse neighborhoods will create a unique visual representation of their community. These huge handmade puppets will drive a massive civic display at 2 p.m. on Sept. 11 that draws the creations of all four corners to Armory Square downtown. Experts in culture and urban neighborhoods, including Sandy Spieler, artistic director of In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre in Minneapolis, and the Urban Institute's Dr. Maria Rosario Jackson, will come together for a public conversation at 2 p.m. on the day after the performance, Sept. 12.
