  Brief Synopsis:
The traveling mask and puppet museum is ideally presented following a performance of "Masks of Life". The touring museum is set up in one space and visited by individual classes throughout the day. The usual class visit lasts 40 minutes, with close up looks at masks, stories about ceremonies and traditions, interactive questioning and comparisons of masks. The last 5 - 10 minutes consists of hands on improvisational puppetry. Content varies depending on grade level. Primary students go on a "magic carpet ride" and look at birth masks, animals in masks, character masks and community rituals. Older students find places on the globe, compare distances and sizes, look at birth, rites of passage, ancestors, ritual battle masks, day of the dead, and improvise with rod and shadow puppets.

  Objectives of the performance:
* Explore the globe and distances between ourselves and other areas of the world
* Introduce the traditional use of masks in ritual and performance
* Tell the stories behind ceremonies and community activities involving various masks
* Emphasize the respect, care and philosophies behind different mask traditions
